The Soothing Rhythms: How Reggae Music Calms Dogs According to Research

Imagine swapping stern commands for the soulful sounds of Bob Marley when your furry friend is feeling a bit too spirited. Recent studies from the University of Glasgow, the Scottish SPCA, and innovative companies like RelaxMyDog hint at an unexpected remedy for our canine pals – the tranquil tunes of sweet reggae music.

Amy Brown, a PhD student involved at the University of Glasgow, unveiled a fascinating link between music genres and stress levels in dogs. In the trials at the Scottish SPCA, reggae stood out as the top choice among various genres, with soft rock also earning a nod of approval. It seems our canine companions might have an ear for the same tunes we also enjoy kicking back and relaxing to.

Professor Neil Evans, orchestrator of the research, suggests that dogs, akin to humans, possess distinct musical preferences. The smooth beats and bass-heavy melodies of reggae emerged as potential keys to canine relaxation. Evans playfully speculates whether reggae’s laid-back vibe resonates with some dogs’ “chill personalities” or if they simply just appreciate a good thumpin’ bass line.

The positive outcomes of these studies signal heartening news for shelter dogs. The Scottish SPCA plans to upgrade their kennels with top-notch sound systems, transforming them into reggae sanctuaries for any particularly irie canines. It’s a testament to the therapeutic power of music in creating stress-free environments for our four-legged friends as well as a testament to the power of reggae.

Beyond the research findings, RelaxMyDog, founded by entrepreneur Amman Ahmed, takes the canine music experience to a global level with a monthly audience of 10 million users. Their unique formula blends frequencies audible to dogs with similar tones to those that relax humans. The reggae revelation, fueled by user feedback, inspired the creation of a dedicated series of dog reggae. Sounds like some real pawsitive vibrations!

As we move away from the scientific intricacies, let’s groove to the reggae beat that resonates with our canine friends. Whether it’s the rhythmic heartbeat mimicry or the universal love for a smooth bass line, reggae might just be the secret sauce for a harmonious connection between you and your furry companion.

The next time your dog needs a break from the hustle and bustle, or needs to relax while you are out of the house, consider turning on some reggae tunes. Let the mellow melodies create a stress-free haven, where the only command is to kick back, relax, and enjoy the soothing vibes of reggae.
