Bio
Niceness is a Colorado grown reggae band spreading the good message from their hometown of Telluride across the entire state and beyond. The band combines an eclectic combination of genres, such as reggae, latin, and funk, giving them a very unique sound that still keeps them comfortably within that roots reggae genre. Lead singer, Koral Delatierra, takes her strong vocal melodies to new levels with soulful harmonies and conscious lyrics. She can even serenade the audience in both English and Spanish.
Niceness consists of a rather large group of musicians who each contribute to their even larger sound and energetic stage presence. With a full live brass section, heavy reggae bass lines, and talented guitar players and keyboardists to top it off, their music truly fills every space and listener with niceness. The band boast among its ranks academics, activists, horticulturalists, and environmentalists. Needless to say their lyrics are often politically driven around social and environmental issues.
Niceness released their first full length album titled Sunshine in November 2016. On the album, the band states that, Sunshine is a call to awakening, intended to inspire mindfulness and the importance of respect, sustainability and living in harmony with ourselves, each other and our Mother Earth.” The band has also released several live tracks as well as several great videos including the music video for the title track on Sunshine. They are currently raising funds to record their second album in early 2020.
When the band isn’t performing at their own local Animas Theatre alongside the big reggae acts that pass through Telluride, they can usually be found in the lineup for all types of festivals and concerts across the state, such as Reggae on the Grass, Hullabaloo, Roots Rock Equinox, Dandelion Festival and more.
“Niceness” is a colloquial outburst that translates to ‘Right On!,’ ‘Sweet!’ or, as Jamaicans exclaim, ‘Irie!’. The name is a proclamation of jubilance.” -Michael “Mikey G.” Gomberg (drummer, vocalist, and songwriter)
