Kabaka Pyramid Visits the Steel City of Colorado
Greetings in the name of the Most High Jah, HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I, Everytime!
Colorado as we all know is ever loving when it comes to Reggae music, and the artists that come here to perform Reggae music events. Boulder being dubbed at one time as “the home of 10,000 Reggae Lovers”, as well as our lovely state name being mentioned in the lyrics of countless Reggae songs from many, many artists over the years. Colorado loves its Reggae music and the vibes it brings with it. This Last April 16th 2022, Pueblo Colorado Brues AleHouse was Blessed with the presence of Up and Rising Reggae Superstar Kabaka Pyramid and His Backing Band Bebble Rock. The show marks his second of two Colorado appearances, which also included The Roxy in Denver on April 15th 2022. The show was opened by Southern California based Reggae band Eureka Sound.
The night begins with an awesome display of Reggae versatility and diversity not only in the sounds but also the members of the opening band Eureka Sound. The bands feel and vibe were definitely unique as well as foundationally influenced. Just watching the band perform gives the viewers and listeners a distinct and direct message of spirituality, freeform freshness, and unification that at least for myself made their performance very enjoyable. The rootsy style reggae is very smooth and easy to get into with grooves that will bring your dancing feet to the floor for sure. Eureka Sound finishes off their set nicely with a large applause from the medium sized ballroom, which has about five tables on either sides of the room and a comfortable dancefloor in the center.
Eureka sound leaves the stage announcing the entrance of Bebble Rock, which is the backing band for Kabaka Pyramid. Bebble Rock warms up the stage with some heavy Bass and Drum riddims that are sure to get your Reggae blood flowing. From Stage Left enters King Kabaka with an Energy that is ever expressive and shining so bright. This Young Artists dawns a smile that is not only contagious but welcoming all in the dimly lit room, to the dance floor. The floor is now much more congregated and as each song goes on the vibes grow in intensity. Kabaka runs through an awesome set list containing so many of his well-known tunes such as “Can’t Breathe”, “Well Done”, and “Everywhere I Go” just to name a few. He also orchestrates a medley of old school tunes where members of Bebble Rock switch instruments and perform old school favorites such as, “Bam Bam”, “Murder She Wrote”, and even a Sizzla Kalonji tune commanding crowd participation shouting “Bumboclaat” loudly upon chorus. Kabaka Pyramid expresses Respect, Uprightness, and Humility in his performance and I personally am very happy to have experienced it. I’m sure many others who witnessed it also will agree. It was definitely a full night of dancing.
This night was not only special because it was in Pueblo, my hometown, but I was personally, with my wife (Jossie “Rootdawta” Marker), fulljoying our anniversary of 15 years at this show. I could not have asked for a better way to celebrate. The Pueblo Brues Alehouse, located in downtown Pueblo near the Historic River Walk district, was a great venue for this show, and it has been the host venue for quite a few Reggae artists in the last few years. I’d recommend keeping an eye out for future reggae shows at this venue as it hosts a very classy but casual atmosphere with a great sound system. I was extremely impressed by the positively conscious and upright personality of Kabaka Pyramid not only in his stage show but also the way he carried himself off stage. Maximum respect to Eureka Sound, Bebble Rock, and King Kabaka Pyramid from I Ras Chrisitan, Until next time. Jah guidance and Positive Vibes to all.
